Tweed Ride Victoria - Stylish bicycle accessory contest & winner

The Best Bicycle Accessory was a curious contest, for it relied on not only the owners knowledge of his/her particular bicycle, but also a thorough grasp of what it means to be a Tweed Rider. Spoke cards? Beautiful basket? A garland of Fall foliage? A Pannier made of tweed? Any or all of these fit the bill! But it is up to the individual taste of the tweed rider for it to all come together for their bicycle.

Le Vélo Victoria handsomely donated a prize to the bicycle with the most stylish bicycle accessory. We thought the only fitting item to truly pay homage to the spirit of the Tweed Ride could only be, you guessed it, the Hotelfietsbel.

I met Gerry in the Roundhouse where the picnic was held. I saw his beautiful bike right and away and went to have a chat with him to see what it was all about. You can see the gorgeous fenders, they are original fender to the bike. You may recognize the metal fenders with divots, not the replicas that are made now.

After adoring Gerry's bike we went over to my vintage Gazelle to have a look. He was taken with the large brass bell. (It's the one with the brass beauty known as the Hotelfietsbel with - Hannah and Susan)

Gerry went on to tell me that he had seen the bell on my website and he thought it would be a great addition to his vintage bicycle.

From there Hannah and I cruised around looking at all the beautiful bicycles looking for the best dressed one in the group.

At first it was really difficult to choose with so many beautiful vintage bicycle and proud owners strutting their stuff.

These beauties were by far that oldest bikes in the bunch

We kept our eyes and ears open and in the end we choose Gerry. It was really a no-brainer for he had the most beautiful tweed SaddleSack attached to the back rack of his bike along with a matching BarSack hanging off of the handle bars. The icing on the top of the cake for me was Garry's tweed cap, it too matched the BarSack and the SaddleSack, plus Gerry had an intimate knowledge of his bicycle and its history... just classy.

The Tweed Ride is a group bicycle ride through the centre of Victoria, in which the cyclists are encouraged to dress in classic tweed and to help recreate the spirit of a bygone era. To us Gerry imbibed the true spirt of the Tweed Ride.
